Facebook SEO – Vanity URL

Futher to my post on Facebook SEO and whether you should claim the vanity url and lose the hyphens, it was interesting to note a search that I did using hidemyass.com for Local SEO Services in Southend-on-Sea.

What seems to have happened is that, in the absence of any stronger contenders after my website, Google has picked up my Facebook page based on the title I have given the page rather than the slug itself. Whilst it highlights the Local of LocalSMO, it is definitely the Local SEO Services in the title of the page which has caused Google to position it on the front page.

Forget the hyphens. Claim your vanity url and protect your brand.

    Hi
I have noticed that just about everything that I google now has a lot of results that come from social media. Just goes to show how much influence google is giving to social sites and where google goes everyone whether they like it or not have to follow.

    Very informative thanks lee

Exactly, Lee! Google does index social media pages and it’s crucial that businesses make the most of those opportunities by optimising their social media profiles. But not just for Google, for those people who might be searching within those different platforms too.

I’m hoping to put together a webinar or Google Hangout that explains this in more detail. I’ve been running some workshops for local business women and it has been very well received. If this is something you – or any of your friends – would like to know more about, please let me know.
