Google Mobile Marketing
Back in the middle of October, Google Mobile Marketing revenue was reported as having increased by a massive 250% over the previous year to $2.5bn.
Since Google generates 97% of its annual revenue of $34bn from selling the familiar small clickable keyword rich text links that are displayed above and to the side of the relevant search results, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that Google are likely to extend this successful strategy into mobile.
However, they cannot do this effectively unless the mobile ad campaign links to a mobile-friendly website design.
Google have made it quite clear that they favour mobile websites over apps and have launched their new How To Go Mo website to try to help business owners to get into that mindset – as well as linking Google with the mobile web. This website allows you to test your own site to see how it performs against a series of criteria that they have identified as being important for smart phones.
Google Mobile Marketing
At the recent Think Mobile conference in London, Google and O2 went to great lengths to point out their vision of the future – delivering mobile ads to mobile consumers when and where they are most likely to act upon them.
Watching the television over the last couple of weeks here in the UK, the O2 advertisements focus on highlighting that they can send you discount vouchers to shops when you are in the relevant area.
At the conference, they also spoke of using your most recent product searches combined with your current location to target the most relevant offers direct to your mobile phone.
So, the other day, when I was doing an online local mobile search for kettles whilst in the shop, my SERPs could have included ads for other local suppliers, complete with discount voucher codes to entice me into their stores.
According to Nielsen, Android devices are now outselling iPhones by 43% to 28% mainly because they have many more types of handsets and carriers.
And with their continuing thrust into the mobile commerce industry with Google Wallet and other innovations, there is no doubt that Google Mobile Marketing are paving the way to becoming the number one player as well as for regular advertising on PCs.
